GHS GIVES SPECIAL DEAL TO MATRIC STUDENTS

Matric Students who want to continue competing for the remainder of the year, but who will be going away to university or overseas and therefore won’t be able to compete in 2011, are being given special dispensation on their membership subs.

GHS is offering, on production of a letter from your school verifying your status as a Matric student, a pro-rata rate for the five months August-December 2010.

Should circumstances change and you wish to continue being a member in 2011, you will need to pay the balance of the year, plus an admin surcharge.

Please note that this offer is ONLY for Matric students who won’t be competing in 2011.

… AND TO PARA-EQUESTRIANS

As most para-equestrians are only able to compete in Para-Dressage events, GHS is introducing a “Para Only” membership fee, the same as has been applied for Driving and Vaulting. This fee is applicable to Para-Equestrian Riders who only compete in Para classes (they can’t also compete in able bodied classes).

S A LIPIZZANERS: AN AFRICAN EXPERIENCE

Saturday 10 July at 5pm at the Lipizzaner Centre

A 'must see' for all visitors to South Africa and all Lipizzaner fans! Come and feel the 'vibe' and beat of Africa!
The Indoor Hall is already ablaze with the colours of the nations' flags (this is the day before the final of the YOU KNOW WHAT!!!); there is a rumour that the riders have been practising the DISKI dance and another rumour that there might be some 'football' going on in the arena!
In any event there will be wonderful music and lots of dancing from the horses and riders.
Partnering the SA Lipizzaners will be the magnificent voices of the Welsh Male Voice Choir of South Africa, who will be singing not only in English but also in Zulu. An exciting and vibrant evening not to be missed. Join us before the performance for South African wine tasting. Bookings only through Computicket.

COLLEEN KELLY : CLINIC AND LESSONS
20 - 26 July 2010

Biomechanics specialist Colleen Kelly will be in Johannesburg from 20 to 26 July! Colleen is a world expert on rider seat, balance and posture and has lectured and run clinics all round the world! She is one of the presenters booked to speak at the World Equestrian Games Festival later this year. She will be conducting private lessons from 20- to 26 July from 13h00 to 17h00 in the Indoor Hall at the Lipizzaner Centre and will be running a seminar open to everyone on Friday 23 July, 6.30pm for 7pm in the Indoor Hall at the Lipizzaner Centre. Safety helmets strongly recommended by Dressage Committee

Following the accident in which Courtney King-Dye (USA) sustained serious head injuries in a schooling fall in Florida earlier this year, the FEI Dressage Committee has today issued a recommendation regarding the wearing of protective headgear.

The FEI Dressage Committee strongly recommends that all riders should wear properly fastened safety helmets when training and in pre-competition warm-ups at all international Dressage shows.

Riders still have the choice of wearing protective headgear in the competition arena.

WEARING OF HARD HATS

We have to insist that any riders making use of the KEP Grounds to ride their horses MUST WEAR HARD HATS.

Anyone found riding on the grounds without a hard hat will be liable to pay a R500 fine.

This is for your own safety – we hope we can count on your co-operation.

Disciplinaries
There were two riders disqualified at the Pony Rider Champs for using their whips on their ponies after elimination. Please ensure that your children are aware that they will be disqualified from the entire show if they use the whip after elimination, or if they use the whip more than 3 times in succession.

RESULTS ON THE WEBSITE

Please be aware that we are experiencing problems with the transfer of results from the GHS database onto the website. Our internal results are 100% correct, so if you have a results query, please don’t hesitate to contact Erika and she will assist you.

This competition gives entry level riders the opportunity to ride for their Regional Teams.

The Lower Grade Inter-Regional Show will be held at KEP on 21 & 22 August.

REGISTER NOW with your respective Regions (you can check your region on your statement if you’re not sure) to be improve your chance of selection for your Region’s team.

Not only does this create a lot of dust, there are the obvious dangers related to speeding
If this does not improve speed humps will be installed.

Do you know that you can hire the Indoor Arena for lessons in the afternoon or evening?
Cost R120.00 per hour.

DO YOU WANT TO BE ABLE TO JUMP A PRACTICE ROUND AT KEP?

Had a bad round or just want some mileage?

Mondays after a show, one of the arenas which have been used will remain open for riders to train over the course. The heights of the jumps may be changed, but please no distances may be altered. (Unfortunately this will not apply to the Bob Charter Arena). Cost R100.00 per half an hour

The date for this FEI Level 2 Coaches Course to be held at KEP, Gauteng has changed to 28 July – 02 August.
There is a query with the FEI because the course must run over 7 days, and the above dates only provide for 6 days.

In the interests of advance warning and communication, I am sending this out so that everyone can plan accordingly, but please note that the course may start one day earlier or finish one day later than the dates above.

“Grow Dressage with a judge”…
A perfect opportunity to ride a test of your choice, be judged and then be given time to discuss your test with the judge concerned. Riders are then encouraged to “re-ride” the test with the aim of improving their marks and comments!

Each time slot is 15min at a cost of R150.00 each.

This is not graded and no points are awarded.

An opportunity to spend an informal, fun filled and educational few hours learning how to prepare yourself and your pony/horse for your next dressage show.

*Come join us for an afternoon on Saturday 7^th Aug, 2pm, to learn what the judges are looking for in your Prelim and Novice Dressage Tests.

*‘Be the judge’ – you will be shown how to score a dressage sheet and six opportunities to put it into immediate practice!
