Carriage Driving combines the elegance of the Carriage with the skill of the Driver. The Combined Driving Trial is based on three tests of driving. -
The Dressage, which is a test of obedience and elegance.
The Marathon , which is driven across country incorporating natural and man-made hazards to test the Driver's skill and the horse's courage, fitness, speed and stamina.
The Cones, which is the final stage where the combination is tested on accuracy and precision.
Far from being a "leisurely hobby", Driving appeals to enthusiasts of all ages, and is one of the most breathtaking events to watch.
Carriage Driving has great spectator appeal and is incorporated into the South African Derby, which is our showcase event.
