SHOWING
In Pursuit of the Perfect Horse
Showing is the discipline of Equestrian Sport in which competitors of all ages strive to find the prefect horse.
Horses are judged on their conformation, soundness, quality, type, movement, manners, ride and ability. The emphasis depends on the specific class being judged.
Separate classes are held for the different types of horses i.e. Hacks, Riding Horses, and Hunters, as well as different breeds.
Showing gives breeders the opportunity to display and promote their young stock, and also provides guidance to the breeders, allowing them to improve their breeding programme.
Showing caters for competitors of all ages. There are lead-rein classes for children under 8years and under, and first ridden classes for 8years and under and 10years and under. These classes allow children to gain confidence and experience in the show ring, competing against children of a similar age. "Little League" provides the next step for these children by incorporating Show Jumping, Equitation and Dressage classes together with two showing classes.
There is a strong showing community with approximately 250 competitors. GHS has produced numerous South African Champions, and our judges have been invited to judge in a number of countries overseas.
Our largest Event is the annual Horse of the Year competition, which draws up to 1800 entries from across the country!
