SELECTION CRITERIA FOR SHOWJUMPING TEAMS

It is an honour and privilege to be selected for a Provincial Team, and riders chosen will be expected to participate in ALL team functions, including training sessions, cocktail parties, parades, etc. basically anything that the Chef de Equipe deems necessary. Once the team has been finalized, the Chef de Equipe, has the final say over all team riders and the selection of the final 4 and reserve.
Good sportsmanship is expected at all times as well as courtesy shown to fellow team members and opposition teams. If a rider and horse combination accepts their Team selection, they are expected to treat it as their first priority over any other shows/classes that they may wish to compete in.

OBJECTIVE
To select a Team of "on form" combinations as at the time of the show. Performance of all relevant combinations will be monitored 5 6 months prior to selection (5 10 Shows)

RECORDS
A performance record will be kept to monitor the above.

"Selection points" will be awarded according to the number of starters eg: 10 starters 1st 10, 2nd 9, 3rd 8 and so on

  • All "clear rounds" will be recorded
  • All "faults" will be recorded. The highest "point" scorer may not necessarily be the lowest "fault" scorer.
  • The "type of class" will be recorded. Priority will be given to the various classes as follows:

Grand Prix/Championship 3 rounds

  • Championship 2 rounds
  • AM5 Competitions
  • Accumulator
  • A2 Speed/2 Phase

ANALYSES OF RECORDS
Competitors wishing to be considered for selection must have competed in 50% (i.e. 5 out of 10) selection shows (i.e. 10 classes). Once again, priority must be given to the most recent performances. Best five shows will count if more than five have been attended.

  • Number of "Selection Points"
  • Number of "Clear rounds"
  • "Total penalties" overall and for what. Knocking will precede stops in the event of equality. Recurring problems, i.e. water obstacles, combinations, napping, etc. will be noted.
  • As per above for "Type of Class".

SHORT LIST
After applying the above and analyzing the records, a list of +- 8 riders will be identified for final selection. This list is purely objective and self-selective.

FINAL SELECTION
Should a team of riders not be obvious after the above process, the following will be taken into account.

Experience of rider

  • Length of partnership of horse and rider
  • Soundness of horse. (Random veterinary inspections may be conducted from time to time, inclusive of dope testing)
  • Any disciplinary action or letter of warning that may have been issued to the rider.

SELECTORS DECISION
In the event that after all the above, there is a decision to be made between two riders, authority is given to the Selection Committee to choose who they deem to be the best at that time. THIS DECISION WILL BE FINAL. It may be based on rider temperament, by vote, if in a previous team; the commitment and team spirit shown, however it is made, it will be subjective.
