GAUTENG HORSE SOCIETY

What happens to my membership if I move to another Province?
If you move to a Province within South Africa it will cost you nothing. All you will need to do is send us a letter requesting your membership and/or that of your horse to be transferred and you will need to specify which province and when.

What happens if I compete in another Province?
The SANEF rule states that any horse which is out of it's province for more than a period of 3 months need to register with the new Province. However if you are only going to a show you will need to have your entry for that show stamped by us either via fax or delivery.

Can I register with another Province?
No, you may only be registered with the Province you reside in and your horse must be registered where the owner is.

What do I need to do when I am of the age to change age classification?
We will automatically change your classification in January to the new age class. If you would like to go up early you will need to request this in writing. However we will NOT change the classification of your horse, you must request this in writing as we have no way of knowing whether you would like to take your horse with you or into which grade.

How do I know how many points are required to change grades?
There are various ways of acquiring this information. Your instructor should be able to help you or you can look it up in a rule book or you can just phone us.

Where do I get rule books and test books from?
There are rule books for each discipline and various test books. All these books are available from our office at a minimal cost. If you are not able to collect them because you live far away we will be able to post them to you at an extra cost. Once the cost for the book/s has been deposited into our account, you can phone the office for prices and procedures.

How can I check my horse's points?
All registered horses which compete in grades that receive points are published on our web-site and updated twice a week (Wed & Fri). All you need to do is type in your horse's name and voila, or you can phone us and speak to the grading secretary who will be able to help.

How do I upgrade my horse?
Once you have achieved the required number of points/qualifying rounds to change grades the OWNER of the horse will need to send us a letter requesting for the horse to either move up or down in a specific discipline (please specify which grade)

Do I get a refund if something happens to my horse or I sell it?
Unfortunately, no.

What do I need to do if I change my horses name?
Fill in the horse registration form and bring the horse's passport into the office.  See the Horse Registration form for the name change fee.

What do I need to do if I need to scratch from a show?
You need to either phone the discipline secretary before the start of the show or inform the judge before the start of the class.

Will I be refunded if I scratch from a show?
You will only be refunded if you scratch before the closing date of the show, thereafter you will not be refunded.

Can I do a substitution for horse and/or rider for a show?
Yes, but you must CHECK YOUR RULES CAREFULLY or contact us for advise as some disciplines allow for substitution of horse AND rider, and some of only horse OR rider.

By when does this need to be done?
Substitution must be done at least half an hour before the start of the class and in writing on the prescribed form available from the judge's box

By when can I find out what my number/time for a show is?
Only 2 days before the start of the show.

Can I make special requests e.g. a certain number/time/day?
No, this makes organising the show extremely difficult and we may end up with more than one person making the same request.
